Learn a little (actually, quite a bit) about me

I love what I do!  As an accountant/information technology professional for the past 25-plus years I didn't have much of a chance to exercise my right brain.  Now I do!  My voiceover training has taught me that there's a creative person inside of everyone.

My view of voice acting came out of my training with JD Coburn at the Seattle Acting School.  He taught us, that above all, a voiceover artist must be connected with their listener and engaged in truthful human communication.  This can be quite a challenge when a voice actor is standing in a sound-proof booth staring at what looks like an egg crate!  Success comes when the voiceover professional knows:

How to listen

Having a great voice doesn't ensure voiceover success any more than having nice hands makes you a concert pianist.  Voiceover is definitely not simply reading aloud.

I've worked hard at learning to tools of the voice actor's craft...and I've enjoyed every minute (well, almost every minute.)  There are a lot of people that would like you to believe that a weekend workshop or an eight-week voiceover training course will prepare you for this career.  While this type of training is useful, I've discovered that it takes months and years of practice - correct, consistent and continual practice to become competitive.  This is especially true in markets like Seattle and Vancouver.

If you've arrived at this site because you are considering a career in voiceover my advice to you is this - find a great teacher who isn't afraid to let you know when you're not doing your best work (and when you are.)  Above all, keep in mind that, like anything, it takes time to master a craft - voice acting is no different.

If you're looking for voice talent I would love to have the opportunity to show you what I can do for you.  I promise you this - I will arrive on-time, I will be prepared, I will take direction, I will give 100%.

I'd love to hear from you!  Send me any comments, questions or voiceover opportunities via email using the preceding links or contact me directly via telephone.

Thanks again for visiting Rick Turko.com!
